Ryanair’s head of social media has officially announced his surprise resignation in a damming series of social media posts criticising the low-cost airline.
Taking to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, Ryanair’s now former head of social media Michael Corcoran revealed he originally resigned on August the 3rd, but had since been placed on a 3-month ‘gardening leave’.
Declining to endorse the company or do the usual ‘Linked BS end of work fluff’, Corcoran instead released screenshot notes sharing ‘a little context’ to his surprise sudden exit.
Pointing problems in company culture, the document begins: “No matter how good you do, they’ll always be d*ckheads who bring you down”.
Elaborating, Corcoran added how being “one of the most successful brands on social media”, being “one of the few teams within your department with a defined strategy” and other points as being “still not enough” for Ryanair company.
Today is ✨ OFFICIALLY ✨ my last day as Head of Social Media at Ryanair.
I toast it on a sunny island with my family looking back with great joy and disappointment of what else we could have built, BUT I have zero regrets on my decision.

Other numbered points highlighted how “HR is there to protect the house”, “Your manager is not your friend”, “everyone has their agenda” and how in Ryanair “someone can still come across as nice and be an abusive bully”.
Corcoran concluded with a final note acknowledging the success of his team, adding: “What my team and I did is nothing short of mind-blowing.”
Corcoran’s sudden exit will came as a surprise to many, due to Ryanair’s well-recognised presence on social media.
His departing tweets have been flooded with comments praising both his work and acknowledging the impact Ryanair’s unique social media presence has had in influencing the sector.
One user named James Kelly said: “Ryanair used to only be known for cheap seats and service to match.”
“Now they’re known for that but will also be largely followed by admiration for their “idgaf” social presence, which has likely been key from a branding AND sales stance.
Another user stated: “You and your team have redefined the industry you were in and opened new horizons for every social team across the world.”
