Elon Musk has announced plans to use traditional advertising to promote his electric vehicle brand Tesla.

At the company’s annual meeting in Austin Texas, the Tesla CEO told investors that the brand will “try out a little advertising and see how it goes.”

Musk told CNBC earlier this week that he wishes to use advertising to highlight the cars’ affordability, safety and overall features. While he does not have a “fully formed strategy”, he hopes possible ads will be “informative about a product” and “aesthetically pleasing.”

“It should have some artistic element to it,” he told CNBC. “And it should be something that you don’t regret watching after it’s done.”

Any potential advertising campaign will be “preaching to the converted and not reaching people that are not already convinced.”

The news comes days after Elon Musk appointed former NBCUniversal head of advertising Linda Yaccarino as Twitter’s new CEO.

The appointment came six months after the Tesla owner acquired the social media firm.

On 12 May, Musk tweeted: “I am excited to welcome Linda Yaccarino as the new CEO of Twitter! @LindaYacc will focus primarily on business operations, while I focus on product design & new technology. Looking forward to working with Linda to transform this platform into X, the everything app.”
