McDonald’s has vowed to remove an advertisement for its new McCripsy chicken burger that was placed next to a sign for a crematorium in Cornwall, England.
The out-of-home (OOH) bus stop poster is situated across the road from Penmount crematorium, according to the local newspaper Cornwall Live.
“Although I can see the funny side, it is tasteless, and I’m sure some grieving family members won’t like to see it when visiting Penmount for the funeral and cremation of a loved one,” a woman whose mother-in-law was cremated at the crematorium last year told the outlet.
According to The Guardian, in a statement to Business Insider, a representative of the fast-food chain said McDonald’s was not aware that the McCrispy bus stop ad in question was so close to a crematorium road sign.
“In light of the concerns raised by Cornwall Live, we have asked for our advertisement to be removed,” the rep’s statement added.

Users of social media app Twitter have commented on the situation, with many people tweeting the word ‘McCrematorium’.
Another person tweeted: “Maybe someone wants a Mc Crispy on the way to crematorium? So? Lol.”
The news comes a week after McDonald’s Sweden converted digital-out-of-home (DOOH) billboards into digital food trucks as the brand looked to promote its new Crafted Chicken burger. Dreamt up by creative agency Nord DDB, the campaign allowed the public to scan a QR code to receive a free taste of the chain’s new burger.
