Sainsbury’s Tu unveils its first ad with New Commercial Arts agency

Sainsbury’s clothing brand Tu and creative agency New Commercial Arts have unveiled their first ad campaign together.

Taking over from Portas, New Commerical Arts was appointed by Tu to handle its media account earlier this summer.

The ‘Tu and Me’ 40-second spot intends to highlight the brand’s wide range of ‘accessible’ and ‘vibrant’ clothing available to all ages and sizes.

Photographed and directed by Webber Represents’ Mel Bles, the campaign film features a variety of models bossing several colourful clothing items. Bold eye-grabbing text accompanies the images throughout the ad.

“Tu is a large and important clothing brand in the UK and it has never been more important to offer everyone exciting style at very affordable prices,” New Commercial Arts founder and chief creative officer, Ian Heartfield, said.

The news comes two days after Sainsbury’s unveiled a nationwide campaign to help customers battle the cost-of-living crisis through its SmartShop app. The Ogilvy UK campaign used light-hearted food-related wordplay to bring to life the ways in which SmartShop can save consumers money.

Prior to Tu selecting New Commercial Arts as its agency, Portas worked with the brand for five years, beating the likes of Seven, The Corner and Y&R London to the original account pitch.

Portas most notable work included creating a pop-up underwear store in London to help women find the perfect fitting bra. The ‘All boobs welcome’ campaign also aimed to champion diverse body sizes.
