M&C Saatchi collaborates with London university for new creative degree programme

M&C Saatchi London has collaborated with the University of Greenwich to co-create a new creative advertising degree as part of its ongoing relationship with the institution.

The new Creative Advertising and Art Direction degree will launch in September 2022, forming part of M&C Saatchi’s ongoing mission to create meaningful change within the industry.

The creative advertising agency already works with the University of Greenwich on its groundbreaking Carbon Academy initiative. Now in its third year, the six-month creative mentor programme has already benefitted more than 100 students.

The new interdisciplinary Creative Advertising and Art Direction degree will allow graduates to develop an appropriate, adaptable skillset for any creative advertising or communications environment.

Students will be able to specialise in art direction, copywriting, moving image, experiential, digital content and a wide variety of other visual and written branded communications types.

The degree has a strong vocational focus, offering students the opportunity to train at M&C Saatchi in their second year, working on live projects and benefitting from mentoring sessions with key creatives from across the agency.

M&C Saatchi’s chief creative officer Ben Golik said: “We’re thrilled to be further building on our collaboration with the University of Greenwich with the creation of this new degree course.

“I thought back to what I wasn’t taught and really wished I’d known. That led to the new Black Book module – helping creative students understand how to collaborate with composers, animators, coders and all the other craftspeople that help bring ideas to life.

“I can’t wait to meet the next generation of creative superstars as they embark on this journey.”

Programme lead for the University of Greenwich, Miriam Sorrentino, added: “Carbon Academy provided a great opportunity for Ben and I to work together, to share an understanding and a philosophical approach.

“Co-designing a degree with diversity, creativity and industry at the heart was a natural evolution of this collaborative process.”

The University of Greenwich has a tradition of supporting diversity. Last year, 57% of its full-time population identified as female, and 56% of students came from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds.
