Royal British Legion collaborates with Havas CX celia to create memorial for Falklands’ 40th anniversary

The Royal British Legion has commemorated the 40th anniversary of the Falkland Islands conflict with the creation of a new memorial devised in partnership with Havas CX helia.

Revealed at a special event, the memorial was the culmination of a campaign run by the agency which gathered together over 13,000 messages of support from the public written on Royal British Legion postcards.

The charity’s new memorial will now stand permanently within the grounds of the National Memorial Arboretum and will feature over a thousand of the tributes received to help raise awareness around the war’s long-lasting impact on veterans’ mental health.

A smaller, sister installation will be sent 70,000 miles away to the Falklands, embarking on a tour of the archipelago.

Specialist Falklands War artist Laura Kitson designed the installation, after having previously worked as an official photographer during the conflict in 1982, capturing the action for 66 days straight.

“The memories and the losses in this conflict are still keenly felt by those who served and their families,” Royal British Legion Assistant Director of Fundraising, Guy Upward said.

“The funds raised from this innovative campaign mean we can continue offering the support veterans and their families need. What’s more, members of the public can see their very own messages come to life as part of the installation. It has been an incredibly moving collaboration and one that will hopefully live on for decades to come.”

Havas CX helia Co-President and managing director, David MacMillan added: “When we embarked on this project, we hoped we would receive enough postcards to complete the installations – so to receive more than twenty times that many has blown our minds.

“It has been an absolute privilege to bring together the power of Linda’s extraordinary talent with the exceptional generosity of the British people to make a real difference to veterans’ lives. It is truly what this job is all about.”
