Specsavers launches innovative smart speaker-friendly ad to drive hearing test bookings

London-based ad tech firm Say It Now has partnered with Specsavers to offer customers the option of booking hearing tests online via their Alexa smart speaker.

The partnership is centred around the optical retailer’s new actionable audio advert which will enable digital radio listeners to begin the process of booking a hearing test by giving their Alexa smart speaker the following command: “Alexa, open Specsavers Hearing”. A booking link will immediately be sent to customer’s phones, who will then be able to fill out an online form to book the appointment.

Through the actionable advert, Specsavers is exploring new strategies to drive booking numbers and will be hoping to bridge the gap between promotional audio content and bookings.

Specsavers will hoping to unlock a previously untapped customer base, following recent research which revealed that 39% of British adults had access to a smart speaker and that an estimated US$ 164 billion-worth of transactions would be carried out via smart speakers worldwide by 2025.

“Say It Now’s actionable audio adverts bridge the gap between radio and digital so that customers can more easily complete the call to action,” Say It Now director of partnerships, Maria Cadbury said.

“Our technology focuses on accessibility and convenience and means that people – in the hustle and bustle of everyday life – are still able to do the small but important things, such as book a hearing test.

She continued: “We are delighted to partner with Specsavers on an actionable audio advert that raises awareness of hearing health and encourages people to get a hearing test.”

Specsavers chief audiologist, Gordon Harrison added: “Hearing health is massively important and can influence peoples’ quality of life.

“We want to make sure that it is front of mind for people across the country, and that’s why we decided to partner with Say It Now – to launch our first ever actionable audio advert – so that we can make it as easy as possible for people to book a hearing test.”
