Sky creates ghostly hologram to promote upcoming series set in Lake District

Sky Studios has created an innovative hologram projection on the banks of Derwentwater in the Lake District to promote its upcoming series ‘The Rising.’

The “ghostly apparition” appeared the in the early hours of Tuesday [19 April] morning, slowly rising from beneath the water stunning scores of locals out for their morning walk.

The ‘apparition’ was simply an intricate holographic projection of the show’s lead character – Neve Kelly (Cara Rugaard), created production house Kaleida and designed using “cutting edge technology.

According to Sky, the intricate project took two months to develop. Kaleida created the “three-dimensional ghost” by using “an array of post-production techniques and a transparent holographic gauze.”

The media giant commissioned the work after research it carried out concluded that over 40% of the British public believe in life after death, and that over 60% admitted to believing that they had been guided through life by a deceased loved one.

“We wanted to do something to mark the launch of this brand-new series, and so we looked at how we could create something which stayed true to the show’s premise,” Sky Studios executive producer, Serena Thompson said.

“Given that the series takes a fresh, modern look at how the afterlife could interact with the real world, this ghostly figure felt very in keeping with the series’ premise.

She added: “We worked with a tech production partner who used cutting edge technology to create a life-like 3D projection.

“Recreating a key scene from the series and bringing about a ghost-like presence to The Lake District – the location where it was originally filmed – seemed like a great way to kick off the launch of this brand-new series.”

‘The Rising’, a Sky Original series is based on the popular Belgian show ‘Beau Séjour’, which first hit screens in 2017. The new series will be available on Sky Max and Now streaming services from 22 April.
