Microsoft and Fornite Epic Games support relief for Ukraine

Microsoft and Fornite game producer Epic Games, have announced that they will commit all net proceeds from 20 March through to 3 April to humanitarian relief for people affected by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Xbox will also join Microsoft and Epic Games in fundraising for United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Direct Relief, United Nations World Food Programme (UNWFP), and UNHCR The UN Refugee Agency.

As a result, all sales of Fornite content on the Microsoft Store and real-money in-game purchases will be distributed to charitable organisations.

This news follows the announcement made by the technology corporation Microsoft earlier this month that it was suspending new sales in Russia.

“We believe we are most effective in aiding Ukraine when we take concrete steps in coordination with the decisions being made by these governments,” Microsoft president and vice chair Brad Smith said.

“We will take additional steps as this situation continues to evolve.”

Funds raised will enable charities to offer further on the ground support, providing health support, essential supplies, legal aid, shelter, food and clean water and other emergency aid.

“This includes V-Buck packs, Fortnite Crew, gifted Battle Passes, and cosmetic packs such as the Voidlander Pack sold for real money,” The Fornite Team said.

“Retail store purchases of in-game cosmetics and V-Bucks cards will also be included if they are redeemed in-game during this window.”
