Luke Littler has staged a tongue‑in‑cheek early retirement to front Xbox’s latest campaign, created by brand partnership specialist Miai+.

The 18‑year‑old darts prodigy, who became World Champion at just 17 and was crowned BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year, calls time on his sporting career in a teaser clip.

In the clip Littler thanks his fans before setting his darts aside to focus on “something I really, really love.”

The fake announcement was shared, on the player’s own social channels, teased the early access launch of EA Sports FC™26 on Xbox. A short film, Do What You Love, produced by Common People Films, imagines Littler’s retirement in a gaming‑filled home alongside fellow Xbox fans and a few recognisable faces. The film “reveals” that Littler has stepped away from darts not for good to embrace his passion for football gaming.

The campaign plays on speculation around Luke Littler’s sporting future while giving a nod to Gen Z’s so‑called “micro‑retirements” – short breaks taken to pursue passions. It’s also a celebration of the darts player’s well-documented love of Xbox and EA FC.

Darts viewership surged 200% last year, with Littler recognised as the UK’s most Googled athlete in 2024. Sam Bateman, gaming marketing lead UKI at Xbox, said, “He’s a committed EA FC player, so the partnership feels authentic. As we launch FC26, we’re encouraging young audiences to enjoy it through Score More with Xbox and unlock exclusive rewards.”

Oliver Wiltshire, partnerships director at Miai+, added, “This campaign merges cultural conversation with brand strategy. Gen Z isn’t waiting until 65 to retire – they’re taking short, intentional pauses to reset and focus on what they love. Luke embodies that mindset, and the films capture both his wit and his creativity.”

Miai+, which has worked with Xbox for more than a decade, first paired Luke Littler with the brand in December 2024 during the PDC World Darts Championships.
