It’s time to dust off your sequined outfit and apply some patriotic face paint, as the finals for Eurovision are happening this weekend.
Hosted in Basel, Switzerland, the contest is now in its 69th year.
It began as an experiment in transnational broadcasting on the 24 May 1956, with Netherlands, Switzerland, Belgium, Germany, France, Luxembourg and Italy taking part.
Since then it has grown to include most of Europe (though only 16 nations make it to the finals) and Australia, because why not.
Ahead of the event this weekend, we take a look at some of the best ads to come out of the competition.
EasyJet
The first ad in this week’s list, this offering is from Eurovision 2025’s official airline
It sees drag queen Ginger Johnson encourage Europeans to ‘Get out There’ and visit their dream destination- Basel, Switzerland, home of this year’s Eurovision.
BBC
Celebrating the return of Eurovision to UK shores, this ad from the BBC, introduces the viewer to Liverpool 2023.
It recalls iconic moments from past contests, such as Abba’s Waterloo, Verka Serduchka’s 2007 performance and Graham Norton’s dry commentary.

BBC X Booking.com
This offering again takes us back to Eurovision 2023.
It features 2015 winner Conchita Wurst, booking accommodation for the contest.
ABBA
Our last offering is not strictly Eurovision, but we couldn’t leave ABBA out of the running.
Perhaps the most iconic act to come out of Eurovision (I will hear arguments for Celine Dion), ABBA won the contest in 1974 with their hit song Waterloo.
This ad celebrates the release of their first album in the UK.
