Poundland’s new rewards app Poundland Perks became the number one downloaded free app in the App Store just 24 hours after it launched in the UK last week.
In Google Play, the retailer’s rewards app is also number one and sits ahead of Temu, Aliexpress and Shein, which come third, fifth and seventh respectively in the rankings.
The retailer invested £20m in new tills to support the launch of the nationwide reward scheme. Customers will be able to use offers and points from the scheme at any manned till by 1 December.

The tills enable customers to use the app on their phone when redeeming offers and vouchers, while the investment also means customers can use their Perks membership online.
Poundland director of digital Tom Hill said: “It’s been a very strong start for our new rewards app, as we give customers the opportunity to save, earn and play through their smartphone, making shopping with us even more fun, and even more amazing value – whether in store or online.”
Word about the launch of the new app is also being spread via a coffee caravan tour. The caravan is in the Midlands this week, at Wolverhampton and Nuneaton before heading over to Wales this weekend and next week.
Other businesses to launch loyalty schemes of late include restaurant chain Wagamama and water firm Severn Trent Water, which tied up with Argos and Sainsbury’s reward scheme operator Nectar 360.
Some retailers have been accused of dubious discounts via their loyalty rewards offering, including by marking up prices briefly before putting them on an offer at the original price.
