Qatar Airways has unveiled an ingenious new campaign that, if you don’t mind parting with a fair amount of personal data, can insert an AI avatar of yourself into a rom-com inspired blockbuster spot.
Developed by international creative agency McCann Worldgroup, ‘AI Adventure’ is raising the stakes of the traditional airport romance, featuring a pair of globe-trotting star-crossed lovers.
While the idea in itself is likely to elicit a fair amount of curiosity among viewers, its pages-long user agreement may put many off – as might the caveat that the airline will be given a ‘perpetual, non-revocable, sub-licensable right to use, reproduce, modify and create derivative works’ of the modified film once the user clicks ‘agree’.
“Featuring pioneering AI capabilities unseen elsewhere in the airline industry, our latest campaign not only showcases the innovative spirit driving our brand, but also encapsulates our customer-centric approach, helping to turn every journey into an adventure,” said Qatar Airways chief commercial officer, Thierry Antinori.
“After all, there’s no limit to how far a dream can take you.”

Naturally, we tried it out for ourselves with the help of a rather dashing stock photo model, and it’s safe to say that Qatar Airways’ AI tech isn’t ready to take over the world just yet.
It does illustrate the vast untapped potential of AI-customised ads though.
At least all’s well that ends well for our films stars, whom fate unsurprisingly conspires to bring together at every turn, despite insurmountable odds.
Qatar Airways senior VP of global marketing and corporate comms, Babar Rahman added: “With this latest campaign, we have been able to encapsulate our vision as an industry leader in innovation.
“Crafting an immersive brand experience where everyone can be the stars, has allowed us to create uniquely personalised connections with our audiences, ensuring every moment is truly unforgettable.”
