It’s that time of year again, with the retail sector’s Christmas adverts appearing thick and fast across our TV screens.

While some ads have seen the return of familiar faces such as Dawn French and Kevin the Carrot, others have taken an entirely new approach for 2025.

Retail Gazette looks at all of the sector’s festive ads this year so far.

John Lewis

The highly anticipated John Lewis Christmas advert has arrived, this year focusing on a father-son relationship as a pair connect over a 90s club classic.

The clip uses Alison Limerick’s club hit “Where Love Lies” as its soundtrack, with British singer Labrinth providing a new, slower version of the song for the latter part of the ad.

Argos

Argos has brought popular mascots Connie and Trevor back to to our screens.

However, this year the advert also features Inbetweeners star Simon Bird to help challenge the idea that Argos is “just about toys”.

Schuh

Schuh’s festive ad centres around the emotional power of gifting through the ages, as the company builds on its Same But Different creative platform.

M&S Food

Dawn French returns for M&S Food’s Christmas advert this year, with the actress starring as a frustrated commuter attempting to drive home for Christmas.

However, French’s fairy alter-ego transforms an M&S Food truck into a festive party as the pair grow impatient with a traffic jam.

Lidl

Lidl’s festive film shows a little girl pondering the true meaning of Christmas, and sees the return of the supermarket’s Toy Bank donation initiative.

Aldi

Although Aldi has not yet shared its Christmas advert for this year, it has revealed one of three teasers for the film.

In the first episode, Kevin the Carrot is shown popping the big question to his girlfriend, Katie.

Boots

Starring fairy tale character Puss in Boots, Boots’ Christmas spot features a visit to the cosmetics giant to find the perfect Christmas presents.

Sports Direct

Sports Direct’s festive advert builds on its “New Traditions Start Here” campaign from last year.

The film seeks to encourage viewers to try out a new sports activity or piece of sports equipment over the festive season.

Sainsbury’s

With the return of the BFG, Sainsbury’s Christmas film centres around the Roald Dahl character protecting families’ Christmas dinners from being stolen by a 48-foot giant.

Asda

Highlighting its low prices, Asda’s Christmas ad stars the Grinch embarking on a festive shopping trip with two children.

Although he is initially disgruntled by the experience, he cheers up upon discovering Asda’s festive offering in its store.

Morrisons

Morrisons’ festive film, entitled “A Year In The Making,” focuses on the fact that the supermarket has been working for families’ Christmas’s “all year long”.

Debenhams

In Debenhams’ first Christmas advert of the year, an all-star cast bring a “Debenhams Delivered” parade to life.

The campaign, which has been devised and produced by creative agency Exposure, reinforces the brand’s message that Christmas can be simple, stylish, and stress-free.
