Premier League football club West Ham United brought a taste of East London to New York City over the weekend by dishing out pie and mash at the heart of the Big Apple.

Launched ahead of the side’s ‘Premier League Summer Series’ friendly match against Manchester United at New York’s MetLife Stadium on Saturday, locals were able to sample a true Cockney delicacy.

Despite losing 2-1, the Hammers were in high spirits as former star Anton Ferdinand was on hand to hand out samples a stone’s throw from the Rockefeller Centre and meet with fans.

Ferdinand said: “It was brilliant to bring a taste of east London right to the heart of New York City, the local and our fans absolutely loved it which was great to see. Pie and mash is an iconic part of our London roots, so it was a nice way to teach some of the good people of New York City about the and our community. We have a great relationship with Intuit QuickBooks, so it was amazing to have their support in delivering this memorable moment.”

“Our fans in New York, New Jersey and across the USA proudly fly the flag for the Club all year round, I can’t wait to get to the MetLife stadium tomorrow evening as we kick-off the Premier League Summer Series in an iconic arena. I’m sure our fans will bring the atmosphere in another landmark moment for the Club in the USA.”

The pie and mash truck then headed to Kearny, New Jersey for over 100 students at Washington Elementary, before Ferdinand took part in a fan-led Q&A at Smithfield Hall.
