Luxury Department store Selfridges has launched Summer of Sound, a pop-up turning the store into a venue for music lovers.

The execution can be found in its London, Manchester and Birmingham stores.

Shoppers can find merch, records and live performances at the activation. Collaborators include Bravado, Young Space, Manchester International Festival, Are we on air? and Pirate Studio.

Visitors can also take part in listening parties or engage in a bit of karaoke.

Musical tastes will shape edits and in-store visual merchandising, and its Oxford Street windows will become a “deconstructed gig”.

“Selfridges Summer of Sound is a celebration of the culture of music fandom, the influence of music merch and the unmistakable sound of our cities, throughout July and August,” said Judd Crane, Selfridges executive director, buying and brand.

“Selfridges stores become places for fans to come together for live performances, workshops and talks, and the best merch. Building on a legacy of music-led collaboration, Selfridges will share its point of view at the intersection of fashion, retail and pop culture.”

At its Birmingham store, Selfridges has created a fan experience, ‘Back to the Beginning’, to mark the return of heavy metal band Black Sabbath to the stage. Store windows were designed by local artist, Mr Murals, who drew inspiration from the band’s visual identity.

For its London store, the department store celebrates the return of Oasis with a 16-piece collection including a hoodie and two band t-shirts featuring the band’s logo. The collection will also be available in the Manchester Exchange shop.

Other merch collections include Post Malone, Lola Young and an exclusive collection from BBC Playback that celebrates BBC Music’s impact on the British Music scene.
