Mentos has collaborated with Fortnite Creative to re-imagine the popular back garden science experiment in which people place one of the minty sweets into a bottle of cola to create a home-made rocket launcher.

Crafted in partnership with creative agency BBH London, the new ‘Mentos Fizzooka’ weapon will be available across a range of the video game’s maps including “Piece Control 2v2”, “Piece Control 1v1”, “Troll Bed Wars”, and “Sky Wars”.

The Fizzooka will be made available to Fortnite Creative players for the next two weeks, which will help the brand’s creative project reach an estimated one million-plus players each day.

Hugues Leydier, senior global brand communications and activation manager at Mentos, said: “Mentos is all about refreshing the everyday, so what could be better than refreshing the original Mentos and cola experiment and shaking up the world of gaming at the same time?”

BBH and dedicated gaming agency Metavision collaborated to ensure that the launcher would be a interesting proposition for gamers. It will be able to launch them across the map, and will be the only weapon that can destroy player builds in one shot. Media planning and buying was by Wavemaker.

“For years the world’s greatest amateur scientists have been experimenting with the most formidable force known to humankind: Mentos and cola. But beyond blowing up bottles in their back gardens, no one has been able to harness its awesome potential… until now,” BBH creative director, Stu Royall added.
