Global charity MSI Reproductive Choices has launched a new campaign in response to Donald Trump’s decision to re-instate the Global Gag Rule.

Under the Global Gag Rule, international NGO’s are prohibited from receiving funding from the US government if they provide, advocate for, or refer to abortion services.

As part of the rule, organisations must sign to confirm they will not support abortion services even with money not provided by the US government.

The campaign, devised by creative shop GOOD Agency, shows close-ups of women’s faces with Trump’s signature over their lips.

According to the charity, the campaign aims to show that by signing the Global Gag rule, organisations are signing “women’s rights, voices, and lives” away.

Bryn Attewell, executive creative director at GOOD said: “The silencing effect of the Global Gag Rule threatens the health and safety of women all over the world. We hope this simple but powerful campaign throws the issues into sharp focus, building support for the amazing work of MSI and defending every woman’s right to choose. Sometimes one image says everything.”

The campaign was launched at key locations across London, including a Digivan outside the US Embassy. It will also run across out-of-home, digital out-of-home, social media channels and print – including a double page placement in the New York Times-.

Elizabeth Walden, global director of communications at MSI Reproductive Choices said: “The return of the Global Gag Rule means US international aid will be abruptly affected, and reproductive health programmes will be reduced or shut down. With MSI set to lose $14 million in healthcare funding, our teams are deeply worried for their communities.

“Without reproductive healthcare, more women will be forced down a path they didn’t choose. More unplanned pregnancies. More life-threatening unsafe abortions. Trump has signed away the rights, voices and lives of women. But at MSI Reproductive Choices, we will not be silenced, and we will not back down. We will always defend the right to choose.”
