Global entertainment giant Disney has enlisted the services of Oscar-winning director Taika Waititi for its highly anticipated 2024 Christmas ad, ‘The Boy and the Octopus’.

The brand’s heartwarming story follows a young boy who discovers an unexpected companion during a seaside holiday, an octopus that attaches itself to his head. On returning home, the child forms a genuine bond with the animal, introducing it to the wonders of life on land.

Disney fans will be pleased to discover hidden references to beloved films such as Moana, Lilo and Stitch and Toy Story throughout the short.

Developed in partnership with creative agency Adam&EveDDB and produced by Hungry Man, the short has been released in support of the vital work of the Make-a-Wish charity.

The film also includes a rendition of Part of Your World from The Little Mermaid, recorded by a 60-piece orchestra at Abbey Road Studios. The short will be accessible to audiences worldwide via YouTube and Disney+.
