The British Hen Welfare Trust (BHWT) is launching a mega milestone campaign to celebrate the rehoming of its one millionth hen, the aptly named Henrietta.

Henrietta has been rehomed by His Majesty the King at his private residence Highgrove after the charity approached King Charles III last year.

Created by agency Happy Yolk, The ‘One Millionth Hen’ social media campaign highlights BHWT’s role supporting the welfare of hens across the UK. Raising awareness of the plight of ex-commercial laying hens, it encourages the public to choose free range, adopt the animals and save them from slaughter.

The campaign narrative, which ends with the royal handover of Henrietta, will play out across social media including Facebook, Instagram and TikTok with the aim of engaging and expanding BHWT’s community of supporters.

It includes a mixture of poignant stories about the charity’s journey, as well as comedic spots starring BHWT patron Bob Mortimer which followed a hen travelling to the secret Highgrove destination with a pink suitcase.

The tale of Henrietta’s journey also sees the hen travel in a hand-crafted carrier designed by the award-winning fashion designer Lulu Guinness.

Meanwhile, the final reveal video created by Simon Moore at Simon Moore design has been shared by The Royal Family and Highrove Gardens as well as BHWT.

“This milestone is not just a celebration of the one million hens rehomed by BHWT, but a testament to the charity’s impact on animal welfare in the UK. Working with such an iconic organisation, and having the privilege to be part of this royal occasion, has been an extraordinary experience,” said Happy Yolk founder and head of social Alissa Khan-Whelan.

“Our aim was to craft a campaign that not only honours the incredible work of BHWT but also connects with a broad audience, ensuring that the message of hen welfare resonates far and wide,” she continued.

British Hen Welfare Trust founder Jane Howarth MBE said: “Rehoming our One Millionth Hen to His Majesty the King at Highgrove is a momentous occasion for the charity. It’s a powerful reminder of how far we’ve come since our founding in 2005.”

“Happy Yolk has captured the spirit of our mission perfectly, bringing creativity and humour to an initiative that we hope will inspire even more people to support our cause.”
