Discount retailer Poundland is embracing old school marketing with a £30,000 in-store giveaway taking place throughout the summer.
Beginning this Saturday and running for the next 30 days, the ‘Grand in Your Hand’ initiative will see 30 customers winning £1,000 each day.
It’s the first time Poundland has ever launched a giveaway promotion of this scale, which is also believed to be a first in the UK’s discount sector.
Customers will be chosen at random from more than 750 stores across the UK, with the first of the £1,000 prizes being awarded this Saturday (3 August) at Birmingham’s Grand Central rail station.
Shoppers at the launch will also be able to pit their skills against Poundland’s ‘Grand in Your Hand’ air machine.
“Our customers appreciate the value we provide, and now we’re providing even more fun when shopping with us,” said Poundland’s customer and marketing director Anna Hay.

The ‘Grand in Your Hand’ promotion bolsters Poundland’s ongoing commitment to its customers, following its recent doubling-down on £1 lines as it introduced new in-store displays, underscoring its commitment to be ‘the home of the pound’.

The push saw the discount retailer reinforcing the message that over 1,000 grocery items in each store are available at £1 or less, further highlighting Poundland’s value promise.

“The new ranges we offer such Pepco clothing, homewares, chilled and frozen food offer amazing value – and now 30 customers could get even more of a bargain by winning big at the checkout,” Hay added.
No additional purchase is required to enter the daily £1,000 giveaway.
Poundland customers simply check out as normal – using any of the discounter’s 3,000 manned checkouts – and the computer systems will select a shopper at random to receive an instant cash prize.
