Challenging vegan ad says ‘Dairy takes babies from their mothers’

A controversial new ad featuring the slogan ‘Dairy takes babies from their mothers’ has been placed in strategic spots around the country by animal rights not-for-profit Go Vegan World.

Go Vegan World launched the campaign to ‘shine a light’ on the facts of animal use that are “kept carefully hidden by the industries that profit from selling animal products”.

Around 225 of the ads have been placed around university and college campuses around the UK, with more than 1,200 ads placed in tube carriages, in underground stations and along the route of the London marathon. The move follows on from recent campaigns asking universities to sell only plant-based food on campus.

A similar advert from the organisation was investigated by the ASA in 2017 following a series of complaints from UK farmers. The watchdog eventually cleared the ad, saying that the ad’s claim that all dairy production as inhumane was substantiated.

The ASA has previously banned an advert for vegan charity Viva! depicting a woman eating an offal yoghurt as blood dripped down her chin for being too gory.

“Today’s students are the changemakers of tomorrow,” said Go Vegan World director Sandra Higgins.

“Go Vegan World hopes to capture their critical thinking skills so they see through the disinformation sold to them by the animal agriculture industry and recognise not only the animal rights violations inherent in all animal agriculture, but the intersectional human rights violations as well.”

“Every person who sees our ads is one step closer to respecting the rights of other animals and going vegan.”
