New KFC ad celebrates British BBQ season in all its rainy glory

KFC is playing on the traditionally depressing weather of the Great British summer with a laid-back new campaign for the launch of its Ultimate BBQ Burger.

Developed by London agency Mother, the creative revolves around a musically-inspired 60-second spot that sees a young woman succumb to the atrocious UK weather as she tucks in to the restaurant chain’s latest offering.

Directed by Sam Pilling through Magna, the campaign looks to offer a realistic picture of British BBQ season, while also championing the inner pleasure of a hearty KFC meal.

“For most of us, the BBQ season brings to mind gatherings in gardens, complete with the unpredictable weather and food,” KFC head of advertising and retail, Leo Sloley said.

“At KFC we know a thing or two about doing BBQ the right way and are all fired up for fans to try the new Ultimate BBQ Burger this season – whatever the British weather brings.”

Running across linear TV and broadcaster video-on-demand from 29 April, the hero spot will be supported by a series of out-of-home, in-restaurant and social media executions.
