BBDO Worldwide CCO to retire at the end of this year

BBDO Worldwide chief creative officer David Lubars is set to retire at the end of this year, with Chris Beresford-Hill set to step into his role.

Speaking to Campaign magazine, he said: “being in the industry has been like a 100-meter sprint in a marathon course. My knees hurt, you know. I want to walk and this is not a walking industry.”

Lubars retires after more than 20 years at BBDO – which he joined as CEO and CCO of BBDO West in the late 1980s – and over 40 years in the industry.

Beresford-Hill, who will step into his role, from his current position as chief creative officer of the Americas, took to LinkedIn and said: “On the basis of his work alone David Lubars is on advertising Mount Rushmore.”

“On top of that, he is one of the most human and empathetic leaders our industry has ever seen. Or to use his words, ‘not an asshole’. Thank you for all you’ve done for all of us. I know I’m not here without you.”

Beresford-Hill joined BBDO Worldwide earlier this year, from Ogilvy North America where he was president and chief creative officer.

He had previously worked at BBDO New York where he was an executive creative director from May 2010 to September 2017.
