Boston Tea Party scoops up Las Iguanas marketing boss

West Country rooted café group Boston Tea Party has appointed former Las Iguanas executive Lucy Harwood to the role of brand and marketing director.

Harwood joined the casual dining restaurant group Las Iguanas in 2000 as head of brand, becoming brand and marketing director in 2018.

Writing about the move on LinkedIn, Harwood said: “I’m beyond thrilled to find my way back to my independent Bristolian roots, joining the wonderful humans at Boston Tea Party cafés”

Speaking to Coffee World Portal, Bristol-based Harwood said that she has been a fan of the business “since the original café opened in Park Street, Bristol, in the 1990s”.

The coffee shop began as a family business in 1995 and now has more than 20 UK shops, mainly in the West Country.

It became the first business in the UK to remove disposable coffee cups, with a banning the products in its shops in April 2018.

After the cafés saw sales fall by £250,000 the year after, Boston Tea Party owner Sam Roberts told the BBC that it had factored the loss in earnings as part of its sustainability aims, and said too many owners were “putting their profits before the planet”.

Other sustainability initiatives by the brand include work with FareShare, to which it donates cakes.
