Actress Maxine Peake is helping to front a campaign for Manchester’s oldest homeless charity Lifeshare which coincides with Chanel’s celeb-filled Metiers d’Art show, currently taking place in the city.

Entitled The A/W23 Collection by Lifeshare and spearheaded by Meanwhile Agency, the campaign is also being supported by Metro.

Supported by a cover wrap across the newspaper the campaign calls for people t o donate clothes to support the cities homeless communities, with Lifeshare set to host its own very different sort of collection just five minutes away from Chanel’s catwalk in the city’s Northern Quarter.

The collection of pre-donated clothes has been brought to life by photographer Rankin, who is known for capturing fashion megastars including Kate Moss, Cara Delevigne, Kendall Jenner and Winnie Harlow.

“As a long-time supporter of Lifeshare, I’m well aware of the important work they do in supporting Manchester’s homeless community, especially throughout the winter months which are particularly difficult for those that can’t afford to buy clothes – let alone high fashion,” said Maxine Peake.

“I’m proud to have donated practical items like jackets and new underwear, and would encourage anyone else planning to visit the Northern Quarter over the coming days to do the same, to do the same, to help us redefine street fashion and tackle clothing poverty.”

Lifeshare operations manager Judith Vickers said: “At least one in 74 people in Manchester are homeless and we’ve been experiencing unprecedented demand for our services as the temperature has dropped. In the past year alone, we’ve seen demand for clothes rise by 158%.”

She added: “The eyes of the world are on Manchester as Chanel comes to town, sot what better time to showcase the generosity, resilience and fashion that the people of this city have to offer?”

“We look forward to working with the people of Manchester and beyond to help provide support for those who need it most.”
