Land Rover’s Defender is set to sponsor ITV’s coverage of the upcoming Rugby World Cup, with games to be broadcast across ITV1, ITV4 and video-on-demand platform ITVX.

Defender will take ‘complete sponsorship’ of the event’s coverage, which is taking place across France throughout September and October. This will mark Land Rover’s third Rugby World Cup sponsorship on ITV.

With media planning and buying handled by Hearts & Science, a comprehensive social package across all ITV platforms will also be included as part of the sponsorship deal.

“The Rugby World Cup is a jewel in ITV’s sporting calendar this Autumn. To welcome Defender back as a sponsor for the third consecutive tournament, is testament to the continued success, strength and collaborative nature of the partnership between the iconic brands,” ITV group commercial director, Simon Dalglish said.

Taking place entirely in France for the very first time, the tournament’s opening match will take place next Friday night with the hosts France taking on New Zealand at the Stade de France.

Jaguar Land Rover UK marketing director, Anthony Bradbury added: “We have been proud partners of Rugby World Cup since 2011. This long-standing affiliation celebrates strength, capability and durability against a backdrop of excellence, so it’s a perfect parallel for Defender. Bringing the tournament to the British viewers with ITV is the perfect way to amplify our partnership.”

  • I wonder if Land Rover Defender understand that when ITV use a female commentator named Nollie with verbal diaarhea , rugby viewers mute the coverage ( see for example Daily Telegraph readers comments) and are liable to miss their expensive half time adverts.
