David Bowie fans will be able to relive his iconic final Ziggy Stardust gig 50 years on, as a raft of celebrities take to the stage of the Hammersmith Apollo for the anniversary celebrations of his seminal album, ‘Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars’.

To mark the event, a digitally-restored version of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars: The Motion Picture is set to make a return to cinemas, with a star-studded premiere taking place at the same venue on Monday 3 July.

Bauer Media UK – which owns a slew of major UK radio stations such as Absolute and Greatest Hits – has been named as the media partner for the extensive celebrations.

It will promote the event across the integrity of its platforms, helping fans relive Bowie’s iconic final performance as Ziggy Stardust on 3 July 1973 at the Hammersmith Apollo.

‘Partnering with The Makers Of and Echo Velvet for this very special music event allows Bauer Audio to do what it does best at these events – bring iconic music moments to our millions of listeners across the UK,” said Bauer chief strategic partnerships and events officer, Steve Parkinson.

“Whether it’s on air or online they’ll be able to experience highlights from the red carpet and then take a deep dive into the world of David Bowie and Ziggy Stardust thanks to a series of intimate conversations with those who were there. It will be a truly immersive experience for Bowie – and music – fans everywhere.”

Preceding the film will be a live Q&A session featuring with Don Letts, Ken Scott, Suggs and Hollywood star Richard E Grant alongside a live performance by Bowie pianist Mike Garson, who will also open the show, just as he did in 1973.

Grant said: “Ziggy Stardust – as a character – had a huge, liberating impact on us all. He transcended the world of music and continues to permeate popular culture.

“You can hear and feel Ziggy everywhere. And the same is true of David and his work as a whole. I’m looking forward to being on the same stage as David and the Spiders were 50 years ago as we celebrate the legacy of a time that changed so much.”
