Contributing well over £100 billion to the British economy in 2021, the creative industries form an integral part of the UK’s gross domestic product (GDP) and their success is key to driving growth across the board.

To highlight the importance of these industries, the government recently unveiled a wide-ranging ‘Creative industries sector vision’ outlining how it plans to ‘unlock’ their potential.

By maximising growth and nurturing young talent, the Conservative government is ambitiously aiming to grow the sector by £50 billion of gross value added by 2030.

Working hand-in-hand with the industry, this vision also includes the creation of one million extra jobs to be supported by a ‘pipeline’ of talent, offering a wealth of opportunity for young people.

With this substantial new plan, the government will hope to cement the creative industries as a invaluable growth engine for the wider British economy, enabling creative talent from all walks of life to flourish in creative businesses from all four corner of the UK.

“Creativity remains a valuable and increasingly sought-after asset for UK businesses. Our research shows that it’s not just a driver of engagement but of profit too – yet is often undervalued,” Data & Marketing Association managing director, Rachel Aldighieri said.

“It is therefore encouraging to see the government support creativity and the creative industries – recognising the value of the fusion of creativity, data, and technology and the creative skills required to harness this fully.”

“Government supported initiatives, such as the ongoing Skills Bootcamps, will be vital for equipping advertising and marketing teams with the skills and diverse talent they need to thrive.”

The vision will also include a particular focus on equipping young people with the skills and knowledge needed to work with future technologies, crucial within a sector that is set to undergo seismic changes with the proliferation of AI in the next few decades.
