GWR unveils latest adventure featuring the Famous Five

The Great Western Railway (GWR) has launched a new TV campaign featuring the Famous Five in their first tie-up adventure since 2020.

Created by London outfit Adam&EveDDB, ‘Five Get There First’ serves as a firmly tongue-in-cheek rendition of the train vs car debate, seeing the Famous Five race their car-bound aunt and uncle to the seaside.

With media planning and buying handled by the7stars, the creative highlights the four key benefits of train travel – speed, sustainability, comfort and socialising, as opposed to the often gruelling nature of long-haul car journeys.

“This latest adventure – our first new Famous Five story since 2020 – is all about celebrating the experience of travelling by train and how it can deliver a level of comfort, speed, sustainability and socialising that you just don’t get by taking the car,” GWR sales & marketing director, Amanda Burns said.

“We’re proud to continue to produce distinctive advertising campaigns that stand out in a crowded travel market, and hope ‘Five Get There First’ inspires people to travel with GWR and experience our world-class destinations for themselves.”

The campaign is the GWR’s fourth to use the Famous Five and will be pushed out across TV, out-of-home, press and online alongside influencer activity encouraging travellers to find ‘hidden gems’ throughout the South and South-West.

Adam&EveDDB group executive creative director, Ben Tollett added: “We couldn’t be prouder to present yet another high energy caper from the Famous Five. This time the gang race to the beach, whilst Aunt Fanny and Uncle Quentin find trouble in taking the car.”
