BBC Eurovision ad features the late Paul O’Grady

The BBC has unveiled an advertising film ahead of the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 which is set to be viewed by 160 million people around the world.

Airing on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, the ‘Welcome to Liverpool’ film features the likes of celebrity baker Paul Hollywood, Ukrainian Everton footballer Vitalii Mykolenko, Liverpool FC women’s footballers Sofie Lungaard and Emma Koivisto, actor Ricky Tomlinson, Ukrainian Strictly Come Dancing star Nikita Kuzmin and Drag Race UK contestant Sister Sister.

The ad follows the story of a young Liverpudlian boy who travels across the host city to tell his family, friends and neighbours that the ‘world’s greatest music competition’ is arriving.

One of the famous scousers who also appears in the emotive film is the late Paul O’Grady, who reportedly starred in the film just before he passed away last month. His appearance was agreed with the blessing of his family and friends.

The advertisement closes with the young Liverpudlian boy sitting down to watch the semi final, before being magically transported to the Liverpool Arena to witness the events live and in person.
