Spanish football club FC Barcelona has released its first ever NFT in a bid to redefine the digital artwork category.
The news comes as the debt-ridden club looks to market itself and gather as much publicity and investment as it can. Earlier this week Robert Lewandowski joined the club from FC Bayern Munich.
Created by BCN Visuals, the NFT is the first in a collection of ten ‘Masterpieices’ and is set to be auctioned with experiential benefits at Sotheby’s in New York.
The media company has also released two teaser trailers for the event.

The initiative aims to ‘redefine NFTs’ by creating something that is a ‘helluva lot more sophisticated than a 10-second ape GIF’.
“The process eschewed the traditional production pipeline to instead build the digital sculpture like a Renaissance piece of art,” BCN Studios said.
The ‘sumptuous’ digital artwork was created using a 40-strong team of ‘Hollywood’s finest VFX talents.
