Ebay appoints former Microsoft marketing lead as new UK head of advertising

BrandsNewsPeople

Global ecommerce marketplace Ebay has today announced the appointment of Upasana Gupta as its new general manager of advertising for the UK.

Gupta will lead the Ebay ads team based in Richmond, south-west London, with her role focusing on driving the adoption of advertising solutions to enable the platform’s sellers to succeed, brands to grow and for customers to more easily discover the range of products available on the platform.

Joining from tech giant Microsoft, where she amassed 16 years of experience, Gupta most recently worked as the firm’s EMEA marketing lead – where her responsibilities included building and evolving the brand’s advertising business in order to offer greater performance for its advertising customers.

Having begun her career in her native India at a New Delhi-based advertising firm, Gupta has now racked up close to a quarter-century of industry experience across three countries and continents. After taking a short sabbatical following her extended spell at Microsoft, this new role marks a high-profile return to the sector.

“I couldn’t be more excited to join eBay and become part of a company that has been one of the earliest tech-led business leaders — creating connections and opportunities for people and businesses around the world,” Gupta said.

“The growth potential that exists today within the digital advertising space is huge and I look forward to working with the team to help expand the eBay Ads business and support clients and sellers across the UK on their growth journey.”

Ebay general manager of advertising growth, Elisabeth Rommel added: “I am extremely pleased to welcome Upasana to eBay.

“She brings a strong background from years building and evolving Microsoft’s advertising business and will be a fantastic addition to our UK team — enabling us to drive adoption of ads solutions in the UK and, in turn, enabling us to help sellers to grow their businesses.”
