Sir Patrick Stewart gives powerful leaving speech in Yorkshire Tea ad

Sir Patrick Stewart has teamed up with Yorkshire Tea in the latest edition of its ‘Where everything’s done proper’ campaign.

In the new TV spot, Stewart, an avid drinker of Yorkshire Gold Tea, gives a rousing speech to a fictional worker leaving the beverage company. The actor delivers a “leaving speech to top all leaving speeches”, drawing tears from other members of the team.

The Star Trek star’s monologue ends with Stewart highlighting that leaving drinks will be at the Dog and Trumpet and “there’s a tab behind the bar”.

The news comes weeks after Ryan Reynolds highlighted the importance of humour and self-awareness in advertising when he participated in a talk at the 2022 Cannes Lions Festival.

The tea brand’s TV spot was filmed in Harrogate and featured real employees from across the brand’s business. Created by agency Lucky Generals, the 40-second ad will also be supported by cinema and social activations.

Yorkshire Tea puts its number one UK status down to the success of the Lucky Generals’ ‘Where everything’s done proper’ iterations, which have previously featured Sean Bean, Sir Michael Parkinson and Kaiser Chiefs.

“We’re chuffed to bits with this new advert and hope everyone loves it as much as we do,” Yorkshire Tea senior brand manager Lucy Hoyle said.

“Sir Patrick is an absolute legend when it comes to delivering a heart-felt performance. If anyone is a master of the art of ‘doing things properly’ – something that is central to everything we do here at Yorkshire Tea – it’s Sir Patrick and we’re thrilled he is part of the Yorkshire Tea team.”
