Bee-dets for bees: Victorian Plumbing celebrates World Bee Day

In celebration of World Bee Day on 20 May, Victorian Plumbing has released a miniature, bee-sized bidet to raise awareness of charity partner The British Beekeepers Association’s ‘Save the Bees’ appeal.

Victorian Plumbing’s inch-long miniature bidets will also feature bespoke, bee-sized bathrooms fitted with walk-in shower and bathtub.

As part of the event, the online bathroom retailer will donate all proceeds made from sales on its adult bidets on 20 May to the Save the Bees appeal.

The campaign comes at an important juncture in the future of bee populations in the UK with an estimated 67% decline in certain groups since the 1970s alone, according to a recent study carried out by Queen Mary University.

Further findings from the study indicate that the UK has lost 13 species of bee since the 1900s with a further 35 under threat of extinction, owing primarily to a change in climate conditions due to global warming. The resultant impact of these changes on the bees’ food sources has also been a major factor.

The retailer has partnered with the Beekeepers’ Association due to its proven track record in conservation, and its active role within the community, funding and running numerous educational programmes to inspire the next generation of conservationists.

“The British Beekeepers’ Association feels flushed with delight that Victorian Plumbing is supporting us on International Bee Day from the sale of their bidets,” British Beekeepers Association Trustee, Clara McGettingan said.

“This donation will go towards our Save the Bees appeal, helping us learn more about the threats honeybees face in our environment.”

Victorian Plumbing chief marketing officer, Joe Pascoe added: “Bidets for Bee Day will help raise awareness of the great work that the British Beekeepers Association are doing.

“Bees significantly impact our environment and ecosystem; we have a duty of care to make sure we are protecting them wherever possible.

“Over the last five years, the sales of adult bidets have increased tenfold and range in price between £100 and £1900 so hopefully, we can raise a nice amount for this cause.”
