Droga5 London promotes Shelley Smoler to chief creative officer

Droga5 London has promoted its executive creative director Shelley Smoler to the position of chief creative officer, replacing the outgoing David Kolbusz, whose departure was announced yesterday.

Smoler initially joined Droga5 in June 2017 as a creative director, and will become the first woman to lead a creative department at the agency.

Having been promoted to group creative director in October 2018, Smoler was made executive creative director in July 2020.

Before joining Droga5, Smoler worked out of BBH’s London office for close to five years, which she joined in October 2012. She previously worked at King James and TBWA in South Africa before moving to the UK.

Smoler has been credited as a pivotal cog in the Droga5 machine, having played a key part in campaigns for major clients such as Amazon, BrewDog and Diet Coke.

“My ambition as Droga5 London’s chief creative officer is to take the conceptual magic of Droga5 and combine it with Accenture Interactive’s formidable capabilities to create a kind of supercharged clay that my teams can mould into ideas unlimited by any definition of category, genre or medium, Smoler said.

“Campaigns that are recognised beyond the confines of the advertising world and that surprise, delight and move the people who experience them.”

Droga5 London CEO and Accenture Interactive UK & Ireland managing director, Bill Scott said

“Shelley is an exceptional leader… She will leave no stone unturned to push the creative product from conception to delivery, driving her teams and her clients to make the work the best it can be.

“She has a unique skill of not only making the work better, but the people around her better. I can think of no-one more prepared and more deserving for this role
