Chocolate brand KitKat has relaunched the 90s video rental store Blockbuster to celebrate the launch of its sharing bars.

Visitors to the pop-up store can select a movie by choosing an empty VHS case and receive a movie streaming code (valid on Rakuten) and a free KitKat sharing bar.

The bars come in three flavours: double chocolate, salted caramel and hazelnut.

Research undertaken by the brand in conjunction with Censuswide showed Blockbuster was among the top five most missed high-street stores.

This comes as the brand revealed it was on a “mission” to help the nation “break better” after research showed Brits are unable to switch off, with 35% blaming their phone.

The study, by KitKat, highlighted 2 in ten respondents felt uneasy if their phone was out of reach and 75% revealed it was affecting their relationship.

Stephanie Scales, marketing manager for KitKat at Nestlé UK & Ireland, said: “It’s more important than ever to stay connected with others in today’s hectic world. Whether it’s with friends, family or loved ones, we want to take the nation back to when times were simpler and reclaim the joy of picking out a movie to watch together.

“By KitKat sharing bars partnering with Blockbuster to take cosy nights in together to another level, we hope that we can help Brits properly savour their downtime and break better!”

The pop-up is located at 9 Greek Street and will be open from 9 to 12 April.
