A nationwide out-of-home advertising campaign featuring footballing icon David Beckham has been launched to boost efforts in the fight against malaria.

The campaign, which forms part of the Zero Malaria Experience, aims to raise awareness and urge governments to provide crucial funding to reinvigorate the battle against the deadly disease.

The creative, which launched earlier this month and will run through to 24 November, is appearing on 446 sites throughout the UK. Major cities including London, Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester, Cardiff and Glasgow will feature the adverts on large format 48s digital billboards, with space donated by Alight Media.

With an estimated reach of around 2 million people over the two-week period, the campaign seeks to draw attention to the urgent need for action in the face of various challenges hindering progress against malaria.

Delivered by creative agency Dentsu, which has supported Malaria No More since 2017, is an extension of the Zero Malaria Experience, which launched at the Outernet in London and featured an interactive experience and a new film, showcasing Malaria No More ambassador Beckham.

“Malaria is one of the world’s oldest and deadliest killers which still claims the lives of hundreds of thousands of children every year,” said Vicky Gashe, director of global communications at Malaria No More UK, “And yet, with the right investment, it is preventable. This is why we created the Zero Malaria Experience: to demonstrate to leaders the importance of backing our scientists to tackle this disease.”

Pamela Stathaki, head of sustainability and social impact, UK and EMEA, at Dentsu, added, “As a longstanding partner of the fight to end malaria and the Zero Malaria campaign, we at dentsu are proud to have supported the launch of the Zero Malaria Experience to reach an even wider audience right across the UK.”
