International banking group HSBC has appointed John McDonald as its first-ever global chief marketing officer. He will take up his new role from 1 October.
McDonald joins from Swiss investment bank UBS, where he has held the role of group chief marketing officer since January 2023. Prior to this, he has also spent time at Mastercard, Digitas North America and WPP.
First reported by Campaign, McDonald’s new role will see him take responsibility for HSBC’s marketing, branding and client engagement across International Wealth, Premier Banking, Corporate and Institutional Banking divisions.

McDonald’s will report into the bank’s chief executive of International Wealth and Premier Banking, Barry O’Byrne.
On the appointment, O’Byrne said: “HSBC’s ambition is to become the most trusted bank globally, putting our customers at the heart of everything we do.
