Health insurance firm Bupa has unveiled a new global campaign to encourage the public to talk about their health.

Crafted by creative agency Redwood@AMV, the marketing drive, titled ‘Health Stories’, features a 30-second, 60-second and 120-second hero spot directed by documentary filmmaker Dorothy Allen-Pickard.

The film showcases six individuals talking about their health journeys from managing chronic illnesses such as Crohn’s disease and endometriosis, living with limb difference or ADHD, to surviving cancer.

New Zealand rugby player Ruby Tui also shares an account on dealing with a mental health issue.

Fiona Bosman, global brand director at Bupa, said: “Through Health Stories, we set out to show people the power of talking about health. Change comes through inspiring storytelling, which is why we chose to tell the stories of real people across a range of different health conditions.

“Through these personal, first-hand accounts, we hope to encourage a global movement, where sharing health experiences becomes part of everyday life.”

It will be supported by a TikTok takeover and a global partnership with media firm Condé Nast.

This follows research from the insurance firm, which showed that nearly one in two people avoided addressing a health concern, but 4 in 5 believed talking about health can help support both physical and mental wellbeing.

According to the data, those who avoided addressing a health issue did so because they didn’t think it was serious, were unsure if they needed a healthcare professional, or reported feeling embarrassed or stigmatised.

Dan Jude, executive creative director at Redwood@AMV, said: “Health Stories is more than a campaign, it’s a call to arms to give people the inspiration to start talking about health.”

“I know from personal experience how much sharing about health can help when times are tough, so I hope these films are able to support people in their own journeys, whatever they look like,” he added.
