In the UK, Mother’s Day takes place on the fourth Sunday of Lent, a practice that has gone back centuries.

The celebration takes its origins from a custom from the Middle Ages which allowed people who had moved away to visit their homes or “mother churches”.

Nowadays, it gives children (including those who have grown up) the chance to celebrate their mothers and everything they do for them. And with Mother’s Day on Sunday (30 March), we take a look back at some of our favourite mum-related ads from the past few years.

Moonpig

Released in 2022, this advert features a biker trying to find the perfect Mother’s Day card.

He is aided by Moonpig’s cute animated pig mascot decked out in a series of adorable costumes as the man tries to find “the one”.

He eventually finds what he hopes is the right card and sends it to his mother.

Chanel

This ad from Chanel depicts children dancing while dressed up as beauty products from the brand.

It built upon its 2020 marketing drive titled ‘Mother’s Day’, which premiered in the United States. The fashion house asked children to draw some of their products, including the iconic Chanel No 5.

The result was a childlike, but still recognisable, depiction of their best-known perfume.

Cadbury

While not strictly a Mother’s Day ad, this offering from Cadbury’s does feature a mother.

It depicts a little girl “purchasing” a bar of chocolate using her toys.

The ad has been stealing hearts since it aired, and Cadbury celebrated its 200th birthday by paying tribute to the campaign.

Pandora

Many children choose to gift their mothers an item from Pandora’s jewellery range for Mother’s Day. Therefore, it is only fitting that this brand makes our list of favourite Mother’s Day adverts.

This 30-second spot celebrates all the work mothers do. It depicts mothers and their children, all of whom are at different stages in life. One scene shows a mother being distracted from her laptop by her daughter, while another features a young man returning home.
