Online marketplace Ebay has teamed up with Strictly dancer Oti Mabuse to launch a spring-cleaning challenge.

Titled ‘List to £1K’, the scheme encourages Brits to divide spring cleaning into three weekly steps to make it easier to stay motivated.

According to the online marketplace, participants should think seasonally and use Ebay’s AI listing features to earn up to £1000. This comes after an HMRC crack down on resellers earning more than the £1000 tax threshold.

Research from Ebay reported 75% of respondents were planning a spring clean, with 43% of people saying they wanted to create more space in their homes.

According to the same research, 80% of respondents admitted they had unused or unwanted items in their homes, with 54% of people confessing to keeping items “just in case” they needed them someday.

The study showed that clothes and accessories took up the most space in UK homes, followed by mobile phones and other tech.

Mabuse said: “I always look forward to spring cleaning as a fresh start ahead of the warmer months, but this year I’m particularly motivated to do so having just moved house, with plenty of items that deserve a new home. I always try to stay on top of baby items that my daughter outgrows, my own wardrobe and the ever-packed kitchen cupboards.”

“That’s why I can’t wait to get stuck into eBay’s ‘List to £1K’ challenge to clear out items my family no longer needs, give those items a second lease of life, and make space for what matters most,” she added.
