Famous landmarks across the capital will “power-down” tomorrow (22 March) to mark Earth Hour.
Buckingham Palace, the London Eye and the Tate Musuems will be among the sites that switch-off their lights at 8.30pm to support the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).
Earth Hour was created by the charity 19 years ago to give back to nature. It aims to highlight the climate crisis and the need for action now.
Piccadilly Lights will broadcast a five-minute countdown leading up to 8.30pm, before switching off. The Lights are participating with the agreement of property investment firm Landsec and usually only turn off in moments of national mourning or war.

Lisa Lee, executive director of brand, campaigns and communications, WWF-UK said: “Earth Hour is a moment for all of us to switch off from our busy lives, reflect, and reconnect with nature and the well-being benefits it provides.”
“This is also an opportunity to consider how we can take action as individuals and communities to restore nature and allow nature to restore us, during Earth Hour and beyond,” she added.
Those at home can also take part in Earth Hour by tuning into nature’s soundtrack, mediating with nature or by supporting the WWF’s conservation campaigns and citizen science projects.
