Not-for-profit gender equality group SheSays has commemorated UK Equal Pay Day with the launch of a new manifesto.

Gender rights charity the Fawcett Society has calculated Equal Pay Day as the day when women in the UK stop being paid in comparison to men and estimate that the UK gender pay gap will not close until 2051.

The manifesto’ ‘Rework the Future’ is based on research within the creative industries which found that nearly three-quarters of employees consider equal pay to be a top priority.

According to the data, 74% of respondents noted a lack of representation for women in leadership roles.

The gender equality group’s president, Amy Dick said: “We are witnessing a groundswell of people pushing for progress in the workplace, especially with legislation such as the Employment Rights Bill urging businesses ‘to make flexible working the default for all’.

“We can’t wait another 27 years for gender pay equality and businesses shouldn’t wait any longer before reforming their working policies to ensure they are supportive, inclusive, progressing, and fit for purpose.

“Our manifesto highlights urgent issues for leaders to read, review and address. Share the manifesto far and wide. Because together, change is possible.”

The manifesto has outlined three core objectives that SheSays believes are central to making workplaces more inclusive for women.

These objectives include offering flexible working arrangements such as compressed hours and hybrid working, providing more learning and development opportunities, and eliminating bias from performance reviews.
