Channel 4 has named Grey London’s executive creative director David Wigglesworth as its new executive creative director, replacing the outgoing Lynsey Atkin.

Wigglesworth will now oversee all creative content for the broadcaster’s in-house agency 4creative and will also hold the role of creative partner. He will lead the agency jointly alongside newly-promoted director, Miketta Lane.

Channel 4 has tasked Wigglesworth with shaping the way in which the TV network presents itself as a brand as it looks to progress its new ‘Altogether different’ positioning.

Both Wigglesworth and Lane will now report into Channel 4 chief marketing officer Katie Jackson, who previously worked as 4Creative’s managing director.

“After I first met David, I couldn’t stop thinking about our conversation. He pushes limits, revels in creative chaos and really, really loves TV,” Jackson said.

“His work is innovative, energetic and boundless, awarded at every major international award show including D&AD, Cannes and the One Show. I can’t wait to see what rules we can break together.”

Prior to his two-and-a-half-year spell at Grey London, Wigglesworth had spent five years as a creative director at Droga5 London, as well as having stints at Mcgarrybowen, Fallon and St Luke’s earlier in his career.

The move follows on from long-time executive creative director Lynsey Atkin’s departure to creative powerhouse McCann London, which was first announced in June this year.

Wigglesworth added: “As a kid who spent their waking life one foot away from a TV screen, Channel 4 was special. Hollyoaks coached me through puberty, Beavis and Butt-Head blew my tiny mind and Brass Eye opened my eyes to satire.

“In my career, I’ve always admired 4Creative, setting the bar impossibly high with years of groundbreaking work. Creative me (and kid me) are excited AF at this opportunity. I can’t wait to team up with the enigmatic Katie and her team of renegades, to keep the hits coming for 4Creative.”
