Surreal cereal is back with a new disruptive campaign that brings back Cillit Bang’s iconic mid-2000s character Barry Scott at his shouty, smiley best.
Surreptitiously named ‘Gary’ Scott (presumably to avoid any infringement), the ‘Bang and the dirt is gone’ star showcases that Surreal cereal is ideal for a protein rich breakfast – but not much else.
Despite the cereal brand claiming that ‘Gary’ Scott is an entirely new character, it does seem quite suspicious that both are played by the same actor – Neil Burgess – and have remarkably similar catch phrases.

Bouncing off his female companion, Scott explains all the benefits of Surreal, such as its high protein content and low retail price. When it comes to cleaning ovens, or getting ketchup stains out of jumpers however, it is unfortunately useless.
The campaign will run across all of Surreal’s social media channels including Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter from this week, marking Burgess’ mainstream return since his halcyon days fronting the legendary Cillit Bang campaigns.
Building on Surreal’s famously cheeky and provocative campaigns of the past – ‘Bosh and the hunger is gone’ even has time to throw in a jab at Scott’s arch-nemesis, Mr. Muscle.
