As part of its sponsorship of Liverpool FC, Expedia has enlisted club captain and international superstar Virgil Van Dijk to appear in a new spot where he shares his passion for travel.

The film will form part of a three-part series that will feature six Liverpool players in total; including Van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Wataru Endo from the men’s team alongside Shanice van de Sanden, Missy Bo Kearns and Fūka Nagano from the women’s team.

Set to be staggered across March and April, the series will even include a special edition episode featuring legendary club manager Jurgen Klopp in his farewell season to be aired in May.

“Travel is a real passion of mine. We visit so many cities through football, but don’t get to fully immerse ourselves in them, so any time off I get, I am always looking to head out on an adventure with my friends and family. That’s why I am excited to be partnering with Expedia, as we both believe that we are all made to travel,” Van Dijk said.

“I’m looking forward to being able to inspire travellers to get out there and see the world. Whether that’s visiting my second home, Liverpool, my favourite city of Amsterdam or even Japan, which is my next dream destination to visit.”

The films examine the team’s global fanbase and how the illustrious club makes the North-West city such a special place to visit. The content will run across the travel firm’s owned and paid social channels, supported by a series of out-of-home executions.

Expedia senior VP of global brands, Michele Rousseau added: “Virgil is one of Liverpool’s most famous residents and a true traveller. We’re thrilled to be partnering with him on this Finding Liverpool campaign, spotlighting this trending destination and showing what makes the city so special.”

“We’re committed to enriching the football experience through travel, and we believe Virgil will also help us to inspire fans’ passion for travel. We are starting our partnership in Liverpool but cannot wait to explore more of the world together.”

Anomaly London ECD Joe Corcoran said “Lots of brands partner with football clubs but very few cater to the needs of their fans. We wanted to change that.

“Liverpool Football Club is a huge community and you can ‘find’ Liverpool in almost every part of the world. ‘Finding Liverpool’ is a season-long discovery of why and how people ‘found’ Liverpool, geographically and emotionally, from the perspective of players and fans all over the world. Every way of watching. Every story of support. Every shade of red.”
