Creative agency Uncommon Studio has staged what it is calling ‘The Dirty Protest’ to raise awareness around the dangers of sewage pollution to marine ecosystems.

Developed in partnership with Clean Ocean, the Ocean Sewage Alliance and Renasys, the initiative allows members of the public to send a letter to politicians signed, quite literally, with ‘sh*t’.

By collecting sewage-polluted water and converting it into ink, the campaign will see the ‘shit’-signed letters delivered to politicians across the globe when critical numbers of signatures are reached.

European MP and chair of the Water Group Pernille Weiss, who backs the campaign and its goals, said: “I signed my name in sh*t to stop untreated sewage from being pumped into our ocean and I need all of you to sign, so we can show every politician that this problem is too big and too important to be ignored.”

The provocative work follows on from the agency’s recent campaign for Quaker Oats which won plaudits for its heartwarming focus on fatherhood.
