Marble Arch to become prime OOH real estate after Ocean Outdoor secures approval for installation

Out-of-home media firm Ocean Outdoor has won planning approval for an advertising ‘sleeve’ set to run around the iconic Marble Arch monument in Central London.

The purpose-built sleeve shrouding Marble Arch will be erected to raise funds for the English Heritage’s major conservation project to preserve the 19th-century monument.

The display will be available to advertisers for the duration of the project – and could prove highly lucrative for English Heritage, which may be able to profit greatly from leveraging what is undoubtedly an extremely high-impact out-of-home location.

“English Heritage is a charity and the income generated by Ocean will go a long way towards supporting our conservation and repair of Marble Arch,” English Heritage head of corporate partnerships and sponsorship, Tom Gannagé-Stewart said.

“Ocean was an obvious choice for us when seeking a media partner with the necessary experience to develop an appropriate yet innovative funding solution.”

After initially being designed as an entrance to Buckingham Palace by John Nash in 1827, the Arch was moved to its present site at the intersection of Park Lane and Oxford Street in 1851. Restoration works were last carried out 19 years ago, in 2004.

Ocean Outdoor UK CEO, Phil Hall added: “This is a prestigious, once in a life time opportunity for brands to become part of history. Their support will help to restore Marble Arch which without the OOH display would not be possible.”

The current project is set to be completed by autumn 2024, at which point the banner will be removed.
