The Botanist bar and restaurant chain has unveiled its digital mobile Christmas cracker game for the second year in a row.
The virtual crackers offer customers the chance to win food and drink prizes in each of the chain’s restaurants and bars. Freebies on offer include bottles of prosecco and wine, pints of beer, cocktails, kebabs and desserts, limited-edition bottles of Kraken rum, and a voucher for 25% off the bill.
The Botanist wishes to eliminate the physical element of Christmas crackers as according to the chain an average of 40 million of them are discarded every year.
Guests who book ahead of 24 December will be able to access the e-cracker game in-house via a QR code.
The campaign will also help to raise money and awareness for the homelessness charity Shelter.

“We initially launched our digital Christmas cracker last year, following months of lockdowns and restrictions on dining out,” The Botanist head of digital, Steph Lloyd, said.
“Following the pandemic, we wanted to adapt and jump ahead of the digital curve to bring our guests a sustainable and hygienic, contactless way to still enjoy all the fun of a cracker but with a guilt-free social conscience.
“It was so successful that we have improved it, added loads more amazing prizes and re-launched it for Christmas 2023. This time of year is all about celebration and enjoying time with loved ones, and we can’t wait to treat our guests to one of over 100,000 delicious gifts and see them having fun in our venues again after get-togethers have been restricted for the past couple of Christmases.”
